A Musical Painting Experience!

The ExYo studio was bursting with rhythm and color this month as our community youth tried a new creation process: painting to music!

First using sharpies on muslin, the youth danced and designed to 6 different styles of music, each stripe representing a different song. From Johnny Cash and Charlie Parker to Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, our youth were surprised by how much they enjoyed painting to the new melodies.Watercolor paints let the youth add splashes of color to the rhythms of their music strip. Like different styles of music, colors can make us feel or experience different emotions. It was clear from the joy in the room that our kids imaginations were inspired by the music.
