A Schooner Adventure
Students from Solstice Day School and North Shore Recovery High School climbed aboard the Schooner Adventure, the last of the great Gloucester Dory-Fishing Schooners. Built in 1926 in Essex, Massachusetts, the Schooner Adventure fished cod, haddock and halibut from Nantucket to Newfoundland, along the banks of the North Atlantic. Gathered in the bunk room our crew of students were in awe of Adventure’s bountiful fishing career and what life was like for a fisherman on the open seas. The tour ended with singing sea shanties, just as the fisherman had done almost 100 years ago. Now pointing their sails to the Wang Theatre in Boston, the students get ready to make a SPLASH on May 25th.
