Imagine Nation Station: Week 3

April 6, 2020

 A Virtual Celebration!

While we won’t be on the big stage at the Boch Center — Wang Theatre, we’re cooking up a virtual surprise that we plan to share on the original show date, May 21. It’ll feature some of what we’ve created in recent months as well as art, dance and poetry that our kids have been making on their own, inspired by IMAGINE NATION STATION.

Stay tuned for more details!

Guided Meditation: Glittery Rainbow

Although life is a bit different right now, we can still do lots of fun activities together in this virtual environment. A great way to take care of ourselves is to become more present.

Take a moment with ExYo friend, Gurdeep Bhogal through a Guided Meditation called “Glittery Rainbow” while we use our imaginations with colors to make us feel happy.

TUESDAY: Multi-Art Lesson

Found Object Mandalas with ExYo Artist Emily

Our youth were so excited by the Mandala project last week that we wanted to give our community another opportunity to participate. Check out these mandala creations from EXYO youth for inspiration! We’ve included a new material list and our tutorial video from last week so you know exactly what to do.

Go on a scavenger hunt outside or around your home for materials like:

  • Pinecones, Leaves. Sticks, Rocks, Shells
  • Dog bones, cat bowls, treats!
  • Socks, Shoes, bowties
  • Toys, trinkets, buttons,
  • Markers, crayons, paintbrushes
  • A pet! (if they cooperate that is)

WEDNESDAY: Virtual Museum Tour

WEEK3: National Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art

The virtual museum tour this week brings us all the way to Korea at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Specifically, we are looking at the work of Park Hyun-ki. In his work he uses screens with an image to replace parts of the objects he’s photographing.

The work of Park Hyun-ki.

You can do this too – with or without a screen – Here’s how:

  • Choose an object (or objects)
  • Choose which part of the object you are going to replace
  • Take a photo of that section OR make a drawing
  • Using a phone/computer screen or your drawing, put your new image together with the original object
  • Then photograph them all together!

This is really fun to do with self-portraits too!

After you take your photo don’t forget to share with us #imaginenationstation
